Haivision and Sencore Partner to Deliver High Quality HEVC/H.265 Live Video

Collaboration makes the most costly and fragile IP video links more efficient and more predictable

NEW YORK (NAB NEW YORK) – November 3, 2016 – Haivision, a market leader in enterprise video and streaming solutions, today announced a strategic collaboration with Sencore to deliver the highest quality live video over the most constrained networks using HEVC/H.265 video compression. Sencore is an engineering leader in the development of reliable, cost-effective video distribution and content monitoring solutions for the broadcast, cable, satellite, and IPTV markets.

Haivision will demo the solution this week at NAB New York at booth #502.

The combined solution of the Haivision Makito X HEVC encoder and the Sencore MRD (Modular Receiver Decoder) 4400 HEVC decoder enables broadcasters to establish video links for backhaul, monitoring, contribution, and distribution where network bandwidth availability or cost is at a premium. HEVC saves as much as 50 percent of the required bandwidth compared to H.264.

“For today’s broadcast workflows, HEVC is primarily in high demand for remote locations that need to maximize bandwidth efficiency,” said David Jockheck, vice president, domestic sales, Sencore. “The ecosystem is still evolving, so working with partners to assure compatibility at this point is critical.”

The Haivision and Sencore solution supports up to 1080p/1080i/720p high definition and features ancillary metadata and multi-channel audio. Both products also support both HEVC and H.264 allowing broadcasters to easily upgrade existing installations and giving them the flexibility to simultaneously interoperate with current workflows.

Haivision also includes SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) technology at no additional cost within the Makito X encoders to support high performance streams over lossy networks like the public internet. Typical internet backhaul topology relies on sending HEVC over SRT to a Haivision Media Gateway, where the stream is instantly converted to standard MPEG-TS over UDP for in-facility distribution to the receiving Sencore decoders.

“Together Sencore and Haivision are making the most valuable and fragile network connections in broadcast more efficient and predictable,” said Peter Maag, Haivision chief marketing officer. “In the world of evolving standards, customers rely on collaboration between vendors. Sencore has always been a key partner of Haivision in assuring compatibilities for our integrators and broadcast customers.”
