Haivision Launches KB 4K encoder powered with Intel® Visual Compute Accelerator 2

Nokia, Intel and Haivision to demonstrate 4K stereoscopic VR 360 live streaming at 2017 NAB Show

MONTREAL, CANADA – April 24, 2017 – At the 2017 NAB Show, Haivision, a market leader in video streaming solutions, launches dual 4K live streaming of VR 360 content. The company will demonstrate the technology with Nokia and Intel (booth SU9410).

Its latest advancement in high resolution HEVC and H.264 encoding, the KB 4K internet streaming encoder is now available with the Intel® Visual Compute Accelerator 2 (Intel® VCA 2). The Intel VCA 2 augments Haivision’s KB 4K encoder with the media transcode power of the Intel® Xeon® Processor E3 v5. When equipped with dual 12G-SDI input and the Intel VCA 2, the KB 4K is capable of encoding dual 4Kp60 HEVC with synchronized stereoscopic streaming through MPEG-DASH.

The power of the KB 4K will be showcased in a collaborative demonstration by Haivision, Intel and Nokia featuring a live VR workflow complete with the 4K 3D 360 OZO camera, OZO Live for real-time stereoscopic 360 stitching, and advanced streaming format playback powered by the OZO Player SDK. This collaboration will help to empower the OZO Reality Platform to enable the real-world delivery of 360 video and mixed reality experiences with unprecedented efficiency and uncompromised quality.

“To support our customers with solutions best suited to their needs, Haivision has invested heavily in software-based encoding for Intel multi core CPU-only platforms and Intel accelerated CPU performance architectures with integrated graphics,” said Mahmoud Al-Daccak, chief technology officer, Haivision. “Through our tight collaboration with Intel, we can stay well ahead of the pack and offer a wide spectrum of price performance.”

“The rapid growth in immersive augmented and virtual reality signals the next wave in visual computing,” said Jim Blakley, general manager, Visual Cloud Division, Data Center Group, Intel Corporation. “By supporting Intel VCA 2, Haivision is able to deliver a cutting edge VR streaming solution.”

“The OZO Reality Platform is embraced by a broad ecosystem of partners and this collaboration with Haivision and Intel will enhance the VR 360 experience for our customers globally,” said Tarif Sayed, Head of VR Technologies, Nokia Technologies.

Using the Intel VCA 2-enabled Haivision KB 4K encoder together with the Nokia OZO virtual reality camera and Nokia OZO Live software, organizations can stream reliable, high quality, real-time, virtual reality experiences that combine 360-degree viewing with a 3D immersive experience for online audiences. Nokia OZO Live and Haivision’s KB 4K encoder have already powered a number of high profile events including the Red Hot Chili Peppers concert and The CMA Awards Red Carpet.

Haivision’s family of KB internet media encoders and transcoders provides multiple options for live event streaming, helping deliver the highest quality live video to global Internet audiences. KB Series of encoders/transcoders support adaptive bitrate encoding up to 4Kp60 H.264 and HEVC, leveraging CPU, GPU and dedicated hardware. Available as small form factor portable appliances, on-premise servers or cloud instances, the KB Series of encoders/transcoders caters to wide range of production environments.

At the 2017 NAB Show, Haivision will also be showcasing the KB Series of encoders/transcoders for live event streaming workflows at their booth at the Renaissance Hotel (booth Ren Deluxe B), steps away from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
