Over-the-Top Content (OTT)

Get a more detailed explanation of OTT streaming and its applications in this video.

In the broadcasting and technology industries, Over-the-top content (OTT) is television or video transmitted as a standalone product via the Internet.

Over-the-top content (OTT) providers deliver video content over the internet, as opposed to a traditional cable or satellite TV service.

Traditional cable and IPTV providers typically operate tightly managed networks that allow users to change channels instantly.

Some examples of well known OTT players include Apple TV, iTunes, Netflix, Roku, Hulu, and Amazon. OTT content is not limited to big players, however. Anyone can make OTT content, so competition is likely to increase moving forward.
