Sports Production Highlights: A Look at Our Recent Live Broadcast Projects

Broadcasters have turned to Haivision to power their live sports productions with multi-camera contribution feeds from the most extreme and demanding environments. Our mobile field units were used for live contribution over bonded cellular and low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite links during the Pierra Menta and SkyRace competitions, two high-intensity mountain events, allowing viewers at home to follow the action close-up in real-time.

Favoriz and HighLive, the production teams behind the Pierra Menta event coverage, delivered a stunning live broadcast of the legendary ski mountaineering race, capturing its intensity and scale with cinematic precision. Using a combination of Haivision Pro mobile video transmitters, the ultra-compact Haivision Air, and Haivision MoJoPro camera app on smartphones, the team captured stunning and unique viewpoints from the mountainside, the air, and the fan zone. Live video was streamed over bonded cellular and LEO satellite connections using Haivision’s SST protocol and routed to Haivision StreamHub receivers in an OB truck and remote production facility. The result: seamless live streaming and a 26-minute recap broadcast on L’Équipe 21 and Eurosport.

In another highlight, Swiss sports broadcaster MySports transformed its production workflow for Switzerland’s National League Hockey games using Haivision technology. To capture the electric atmosphere of live hockey, MySports set up rink-side broadcast studios inside the arenas, bringing on-air talent closer to the action. Working with Haivision partner Lang Baranday, MySports deployed the Haivision Pro460 mobile video transmitter and StreamHub receiver to enable remote production over bonded 5G networks. With six embedded 5G modems, the Pro460 provided reliable and low-latency transmission of multiple live camera feeds from various venues to the master control room in Erlenbach. This innovative workflow allowed MySports to streamline logistics, ensure broadcast quality, and deliver a more immersive experience for fans at home.

Looking Ahead: Advancing Live Sports Broadcasting

Haivision is focused on enabling broadcasters to capture live video from dynamic environments so audiences can experience the action in real time. At NAB, we introduced Falkon X2, a compact, ultra-low latency mobile video transmitter optimized for bonded 5G, designed for fast-paced, on-the-go sports production. We continue to support SRT, the open-source protocol we developed, and our Makito X4 video encoders and decoders now support ST 2110 workflows for all-IP broadcast contribution. We’re also expanding Haivision Hub 360, our cloud-based master control solution, enabling easier routing and monitoring of live video across on-prem and cloud environments.
