SRT Update: Sony Joins SRT Alliance and SRT Tuesdays Return for 2021!

Calling all SRT enthusiasts! Get ready for another big year in 2021! In our first SRT update of the year we’re sharing a recap of the most important SRT related content and news you may have missed. 

In case you’re unfamiliar with SRT, it stands for Secure Reliable Transport, and it’s an open source technology stack and protocol originally developed pioneered by Haivision. SRT optimizes video streaming performance across unpredictable networks and with secure streams, pristine quality and simplified firewall traversal, SRT delivers the best quality video over the worst networks.

Sony Joins the SRT Alliance

Last week, SRT’s position as the defacto standard for IP video transport was further solidified with the announcement that industry giant Sony has joined the SRT Alliance. Sony’s initial products to support the SRT protocol include the latest lineup of remotely controlled IP cameras, including the SRG-XP1 and SRG-XB25, to achieve stable, high-quality, low-latency video contribution in a wide range of applications across corporate, education, healthcare, live broadcast, and other markets, with the aim of getting to customers to help solve their challenges.

The Return of SRT Tuesdays for 2021

Launched last year, the popular SRT Tuesday webinar series, hosted by Haivision and the SRT Alliance, is back. This fascinating series lifts the lid on the many ways that SRT has been adopted and deployed in a wide range of applications. From mobile journalism, drones and robots, to live remote guest technology capturing and broadcasting fans reactions in real-time, the series showcases the latest innovations that are leveraging SRT protocol. Each webinar features an SRT Alliance member organization explaining how its harnessing the power of the SRT for streaming low latency high quality video over unpredictable internet connections.
