Kraken X1 Rugged: AI-Capable ISR Processing at the Tactical Edge
Introducing the Kraken X1 Rugged: Haivision’s newest rugged ISR video processor combines low-latency encoding, transcoding, AI-enhanced video and metadata to support the toughest mission demands in the most extreme environments.

Built on the powerful NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX platform, Kraken X1 delivers up to four simultaneous 1080p60 HEVC streams with the processing muscle for AI-based stream enrichment. Kraken X1 Rugged brings battle-tested Haivision technology to remote and tactical edge environments.

In a snapshot, Kraken X1 Rugged is:

  • Compact and rugged: Designed for space-constrained tactical deployments.
  • AI-capable: Fully featured Kraken software with optional upgrades for real-time processing of advanced AI algorithms from third parties, including object detection, classification, and tracking.
  • Powered by 28V DC: This makes it ideal for vehicle and forward-operating deployments.

Kraken X1 Rugged combines high-performance video encoding with advanced AI processing for ISR teams needing rapid, on-the-ground intelligence.

Kraken ISR Video Streaming with Shield AI Object Detection

The latest release of the Kraken video processing platform delivers a leap forward in stream enrichment through real-time video processing. A key highlight is the integration with Shield AI’s Tracker, enabling advanced VMTI (Video Moving Target Indicator) overlays from land, maritime, and search-and-rescue (SAR) environments.

Other major Kraken enhancements include:

  • New processor framework for stream enrichment and real-time media processing.
  • Preliminary mobile UI support for operational flexibility in the field.
  • Security enhancements, including updated SRT libraries and DISA APL-related improvements.

With newly added support for multiple real-time processing functions, including object detection, face recognition, and metadata overlays, Kraken ensures mission teams can analyze and act on video intelligence faster than ever.

ISR Expanding Capabilities
Makito FX: DisplayPort Support for Simulation and Training

Designed to meet the stringent security requirements of operation centers and control rooms, the Makito FX 4K encoder securely streams mission-critical video for quick decision making.

The latest release of the Makito FX – adds support for a wide range of computer output resolutions, enabling users to encode native HDMI, DisplayPort (model-dependent), or DVI (via HDMI adapter) outputs while preserving pristine quality video, which is ideal for detailed content like spreadsheets or high-resolution geospatial imagery.

Alongside this update, we’ve introduced a new hardware model of the Makito FX which includes DisplayPort input and loop-out, unlocking new opportunities in command center, simulation, and training environments. With this, users can directly connect their Makito FX to DisplayPort video sources, like workstations, without needing any adapters. The loop-out feature enables the same DisplayPort signal to be sent to an external monitor for local viewing while simultaneously streaming. This eliminates the need for external splitters and simplifies the setup for users who want to monitor their video source locally while streaming it.

Key benefits of the new Makito FX update:

  • DisplayPort 1.4 support with passive loop-out.
  • Computer graphical resolutions support (up to 4K DCI / 4096×2160).
  • Compliant to both HDCP 1.4 and 2.3.
  • Supports high-resolution input for greater visual clarity.

Whether it’s a simulated training exercise or real-time screen capture from secure environments, Makito FX ensures that every pixel of mission-critical data is delivered with precision and minimal latency.

New ISR Features Across the Makito Video Encoder Family

As ISR operations demand faster, smarter, and more context-aware video workflows, Haivision has introduced new capabilities across the Makito X4, X4 Rugged, X1 Rugged, and Makito FX video encoders. These features are designed to enhance situational awareness at every level, boosting video clarity, minimizing latency, and improving source attribution in real time. Whether in airborne platforms, mobile command centers, or secure facility deployments, these updates ensure that mission-critical video delivers maximum operational value from video capture to command center viewing.

  • Logo overlay enables users to add visual identifiers, such as unit IDs, mission tags, or agency logos, directly into the video stream. Ideal for asserting video ownership, enhancing traceability, and masking sensitive content during multi-agency operations.
  • Slicing captures, encodes, and streams video frames in slices, enabling ultra-low latency streaming with an up to 80% reduction in encoding (input-to-network) latency. Supported for both H.264 and HEVC, and fully standards-compliant for seamless integration.
  • Scene change detection automatically inserts an I-frame on major content shifts to reduce artifacts and maintain visual quality during rapid scene transitions.

These updates deliver faster, clearer, and more context-rich video streams, perfectly optimized for today’s evolving ISR demands.

Powering Mission Intelligence from Core to Edge

With the latest advancements to the Haivision ISR product line, defense and intelligence professionals can count on faster, smarter, and more adaptable video workflows, whether in the cloud, at command, or at the tactical edge.
