Google Cloud Joins SRT Alliance

Haivision Welcomes Google Cloud to the SRT Alliance

It’s been a big year for the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) video transport protocol. With 2021 being its fourth anniversary and the SRT Alliance reaching the 500-member landmark, the SRT open-source initiative has taken its biggest steps towards becoming the defacto standard for low latency streaming.

Today, we are very excited to announce another major milestone with Google Cloud becoming the latest member of the SRT Alliance

Google Cloud Enables SRT

Haivision today announced that Google Cloud has joined the SRT Alliance. Google Cloud’s support for SRT will help media companies better contribute secure, reliable video streams to Google native cloud services for global collaboration, production, and distribution.

“Google Cloud is committed to helping media organizations around the world transform their audience experiences,” said Anil Jain, Managing Director of Media & Entertainment Industry Solutions at Google Cloud. “We are delivering on that commitment by innovating alongside partners like Haivision and the SRT Alliance, and helping drive the adoption of new technologies such as the SRT protocol supports our continuously expanding portfolio of solutions for the media & entertainment industry.”

Google Cloud is the Last Piece of the Puzzle

The inclusion of Google Cloud to the SRT Alliance means that SRT is now enabled across all the top cloud service providers as Mirko Wicha, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman of the Board of Haivision, explains:

“Google Cloud joining the SRT Alliance and supporting SRT is an important milestone in our open-source initiative, now with every major cloud platform endorsing the standard. Haivision’s team of SRT developers collaborates with engineers from the most progressive organizations, both within the open-source community and within standards organizations, to better the technology stack and expand its application areas. Together, with Google Cloud, we’re thrilled to advance our commitment to helping overcome the challenges of mission-critical, low latency video streaming.”

The SRT Alliance Continues to Strengthen

Since being developed by Haivision, SRT continues to be adopted by the biggest names in the industry. SRT enables the delivery of high-quality, secure, low latency video across the public internet. To encourage widespread adoption so that more companies and customers could benefit from SRT, Haivision released the protocol on GitHub in 2017 as an open-source technology stack and founded the SRT Alliance. The SRT Alliance now has over 500 members made of a strong community of industry leaders and developers who are focused on addressing the challenges of low latency streaming through the collaborative development of SRT.
