SMPTE ST 2110

SMPTE ST 2110 is an emerging standard within the professional broadcast industry that relies on separate IP streams for video, audio, and metadata, also referred to as essence streams. ST 2110 replaces traditional SDI cables by enabling the transmission of uncompressed, high-quality media over local area networks based on IP and Ethernet technology.

ST 2110 specifies how uncompressed video, audio, and ancillary data such as timecode or captions are packetized for transmission. By decoupling essence streams, ST 2110 facilitates more agile and adaptable media infrastructures for seamless interoperability among different IP-connected broadcast production equipment and software.
