Slice-Based Encoding

Slice-based encoding is a method of video encoding in which a single video frame is divided or “sliced” into separate sections which can each be encoded simultaneously in parallel. Once encoded, each slice can then be immediately streamed to a decoder instead of waiting for the entire frame to be encoded first.

Slice-based encoding and decoding, supported by the Makito X4 video encoder and decoder, can reduce end-to-end latency up to 25% or about 10-12 milliseconds, which may be critical for live broadcast productions as well as mission-critical ISR applications.
