How Haivision Enabled a Flexible, Ultra-Low Latency Outdoor Broadcast Workflow over Private 5G
RF and COFDM systems have long been the wireless camera transmission standards for live sports and news production, especially for outside broadcast (OB) workflows. However, as productions have grown in complexity, with more devices demanding higher bandwidth, TV Skyline began exploring private 5G networks as a new foundation for a wireless video contribution workflow that can apply to many different types of live events.
The challenge was how to adopt 5G transmitters for live video contribution over a private network while matching or exceeding the ultra-low latency typically achieved with traditional RF systems. This new robust and scalable private 5G contribution workflow had to seamlessly integrate with existing broadcast production equipment while enabling faster setup and teardown by reducing the number of base stations, antennas, and receivers needed.
In choosing a live contribution solution, TV Skyline turned to Haivision and its proven expertise in delivering ultra-low latency video over private 5G networks.
Together, the teams developed a live contribution workflow featuring:
The new workflow was designed to ensure ultra-low latency, broadcast-quality 4K UHD and HD streaming over a private 5G network.
