5G for live video contribution continues to grow
The first subject from the 2025 Broadcast Transformation Report was the use of cellular networks and 5G for live video contribution. 76% of survey respondents who are currently using cellular networks are using 5G and 21% plan to in the next year with the main reasons being greater bandwidth (55%), lower latency (50%), and cost savings (31%).

SRT surges ahead
Usage of the Haivision-invented Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol increased by another 9%, jumping from 68% to 77% in 2025. This increase makes SRT the industry’s most used transport protocol by a wide margin with RTMP coming in second at 58%. AI is a hot topic everywhere including in the broadcast industry. A quarter of respondents answered that they are currently using AI in their workflows, up 9% from last year, and 64% believe that it will have a huge impact on the industry in the next five years.
