What You Need to Know About the SRT Open Source Streaming Protocol
Those of you who work in the business of streaming video have probably heard about the SRT open-source protocol by now. For those of you who haven’t, here’s a quick primer.
SRT stands for Secure Reliable Transport, and was developed by Haivision in 2012. SRT is simply a protocol that helps people send high-quality, secure video over unreliable public networks, i.e. the internet.
In 2017, along with Wowza, we started the SRT Alliance in an effort to share this technology with everyone who wanted to make use of it. We felt that, with the help of the greater community, SRT could grow even stronger, and could be adopted as a standard across the industry.
We know that there are many who have questions about how SRT works, and what its underlying features are. To help address those questions, we’ve written a White Paper titled, SRT – A new open source protocol for low-latency video transport over the internet.
