Haivision Launches the Makito X4 Video Decoder Bringing Ultra Low Latency 4K Video Over IP for Live Broadcast, Interviews, and Remote Production

Newest Addition to the Makito X Series Enables Low Latency Decoding of HEVC and H.264 Video Streams in 4K UHD and HD Over Private and Public IP Networks

Montreal, Canada – June 15, 2020 Haivision, a leader in video streaming solutions, announces the launch of the Makito X4 Video Decoder, the ideal companion for the award-winning Makito X4 Video Encoder, enabling live, ultra low latency 4K UHD and HD video contribution over IP networks.

Low latency live video is critical in the dynamic workflows of live broadcast, bi-directional interviews, remote production, sports coverage, and real-time monitoring. The latest innovations in the Makito X Series, the Makito X4 Video Encoder and Decoder deliver pristine quality HEVC and H.264 video in real-time with extremely low latency. With native support for the SRT protocol, the Makito X4 Video Encoder and Decoder are designed for live low latency streaming over the public internet and private networks to provide broadcasters with a secure, flexible, and cost-effective alternative to satellite and dedicated fiber.

For remote production workflows in broadcast, the Makito X4 Decoder includes Haivision’s hardware-based Stream Sync technology featuring single frame accuracy. Stream Sync takes the guesswork out of configuration and enables synchronized switching between multiple video and audio sources. This technology makes it possible for broadcasters to quickly and easily cover global events from at-home production centers, reducing the need to deploy staff and resources to remote event locations.

Available as either an appliance or blade, the Makito X4 Decoder packs lots of power into a small form factor. Makito X4 Decoder blades offer the highest channel density available at a low cost per channel with 84 HD or 21 4K UHD SDI video outputs in a single 4RU rack chassis.

“Reaching new achievements in density and cost per channel, Makito X4 Video Encoders and Decoders are the best solution for broadcasters that need low latency live video for real-time applications like newsgathering, live interviews, and remote production,” said Mahmoud J. Al-Daccak, Chief Technology Officer and EVP Product Development, Haivision. “Like the Makito X original SRT video encoder, the Makito X4 family is pushing innovations in form factor, flexibility, and scalability, giving broadcasters the highest quality video at the lowest latency.”

The Makito X4 Video Decoder features:

  • Support for 4K UHD/Quad HD video with HEVC and H.264 decoding up to 3840x2160p60
  • 10-bit 4:2:2 color precision for impeccable picture quality
  • Compact appliance or blade module for scalable deployment in constrained spaces and high-density environments

Equally suitable in defense for their reliability, latency, and form factor, the Makito X4 Video Encoder and Decoder are also ideal for ISR applications such as testing and training ranges, with support for KLV metadata and compliance with STANAG and MISB standards.
