Eurovision Sport Haivision European Aquatics Championships

Eurovision Sport Leverages Haivision Hub for Custom Remote Production of the European Aquatics Championships

Eurovision Sport, operated by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), recently announced that it chose the Haivision Hub video network service to securely deliver multiple, real-time video feeds to broadcasters across Europe to power their remote production of the European Aquatics Championships.

Recognizing the power of sport to bring nations together and celebrate cultural identity, Eurovision Sport uses its collective strength of its membership to negotiate global sports content for the benefit of all stakeholders, connecting broadcasters with sports federations, rights holders, and technology partners, so that they can bring the best sports content to their audiences.

Held biannually, the 2021 European Aquatics Championships are being held from May 10-23 in Budapest, Hungary, bringing together top athletes across Europe for events including swimming, diving, and artistic swimming.

What is Haivision Hub?

In case you’re not familiar with Haivision Hub, it’s an easy-to-use video network service that provides users with an on-demand, agile solution for securely transporting live IP video feeds from video encoders located onsite at live events to production resources either on-premise, or in the cloud. Haivision Hub enables complete end-to-end live IP video routing and centralizes the management of live contribution workflows.

With fast start-up, integrated device control, stream optimization, and status and monitoring from a single browser window, Haivision Hub is an ideal solution for breaking news, sports, cultural, and corporate events.

Custom Remote Production

By leveraging the cloud-based Haivision Hub, the SRT protocol, and Haivision’s Makito X real-time video encoders, EBU and its members can produce coverage of the European Aquatics Championships remotely, from their own headquarters. It is also enabling these broadcasters to tailor live content to their respective audiences on multiple platforms.

In this workflow, multiple isolated feeds, along with the main production feed, are sent from the venue over the global Eurovision Network and Haivision Hub to national broadcasters. With access to these feeds, each national broadcaster can produce its own custom programming, including interviews with star athletes from their respective countries.

“The beauty of the Haivision Hub cloud solution integrated within the unique broadcast services delivered through our network is that it offers our EBU broadcasters the flexibility to do more interviews and create more custom feeds to meet increasing demand for tailored content without staff having to travel to the sports venue.”
Franck Choquard, Head of Content and Platforms, Eurovision Sport at EBU.
