Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of the Customer Returns (RMA) department, the Senior Electronics Technician is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, refurbishment, and functional validation of Haivision electronic boards and equipment.

The ideal candidate has strong expertise in analyzing complex electronic failures and demonstrates an exceptional ability to quickly identify issues using electronic analysis and measurement tools (e.g., internal test equipment, oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.), as well as performing high-precision repairs with accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostics and Repair
  • Analyze and diagnose failures in complex electronic circuits and high technology equipment
  • Accurately identify root causes of failures, including:
  • Defective or short-circuited capacitors
  • Open or damaged resistors
  • Cold or degraded solder joints
  • Damaged or lifted PCB traces

Detect faults related to integrated circuits (ICs):

  • Functional malfunctions
  • Power supply or input/output signal issues
  • Lack of or inconsistent communication between components
  • Perform repair or refurbishment of electronic boards when technically and economically feasible
  • Clearly and accurately document components to be replaced for warranty purpose

Soldering and Precision Work

  • Perform high-precision soldering on through-hole (THT) and surface-mount components (SMT/SMD, QFN, small BGA)
  • Conduct advanced visual inspections using appropriate inspection and analysis equipment
  • Repair PCB traces and perform micro-level interventions on multilayer boards in accordance with quality standards

Testing and Functional Validation

  • Use test benches shared between the RMA and production departments
  • Conduct full and final functional testing after repairs to ensure equipment compliance
  • Provide technical support to production operators for complex issues
  • Effectively use electronic measurement and analysis instruments (oscilloscope, multimeter, internal test equipment, etc.)

Documentation and Continuous Improvement

  • Prepare detailed technical reports including failure description, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and time spent
  • Work closely with engineering teams to improve product reliability and maintainability
  • Contribute to the optimization and standardization of diagnostic and repair procedures

Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing

  • Share best practices in advanced diagnostics and precision repair
  • Serve as a technical reference and support team skill development

Skills and Qualifications

  • College diploma (DEC) in Industrial Electronics, Programmable Electronics, Industrial Computing, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in advanced component-level electronic repair
  • Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (strong asset)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electronic schematics
  • Proficiency in precision soldering techniques (THT and SMT/SMD), including formats such as 0402 / 0603 (asset)
  • Strong expertise in component-level diagnostics and complex electronic failure analysis
  • Proficient with electronic measurement and analysis tools (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, multimeter, specialized test equipment)
  • Good knowledge and application of IPC standards (e.g., IPC-A-610, IPC-7711 / IPC-7721, IPC-J-STD-001)
  • Functional fluency in French (spoken and written)
  • Technical English sufficient for reading and understanding documentation
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Autonomous, detail-oriented, and rigorous
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
