Haivision’s SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) is a video streaming technology that brings the best quality live video over the worst networks. It accounts for packet loss, jitter, and fluctuating bandwidth, maintaining the integrity and quality of your video. With SRT, you can keep your streams secure and easily traverse firewalls. SRT is included with all Haivision streaming solutions.
SRT is applied to contribution and distribution endpoints as part of a video stream workflow. After encoding (or transcoding), SRT applies encryption and provides error recovery. Prior to decoding (or transcoding), SRT decrypts the stream and enables recovery from packet loss typical of Internet connections. At the same time, SRT detects the real-time network performance between the encode / decode / transcode endpoints. The endpoints can be dynamically adjusted for optimal stream performance and quality.
SRT offers additional operational flexibility and cost savings by reducing the need to invest in additional satellite or network infrastructure. With SRT, you can stream events from any venue despite, unreliable Internet connections, monitor remote facility feeds without dedicated network provisioning that entail long lead times and hefty annual contracts, increase your content programming while eliminating the need for satellite links that include high hourly use charges, or introduce live video to your digital signage networks without investing in additional infrastructure costs.
SRT is the transport layer of Haivision’s end-to-end solution and is initially available within the Makito X encoders and decoders for high quality, low cost video transport for point-to-point applications. Going forward, SRT will be applied to all Haivision products that enable video workflows over unqualified networks.
In recent years, broadcasters have looked to low-cost, readily available internet connections to help transport more secure, low-latency, HD video for remote interviews, remote production and broadcast affiliate distribution.
This white paper explores the viability of using low-cost, readily available internet connections for live video transport. Download the white paper here.
