The Barracuda™ encoder delivers high performance standard definition (SD) H.264 in a compact form factor and supports advanced features based on applications within the enterprise, medical, education, and military segments. The Barracuda encoder is ideal for standalone deployment, within headends, or coupled with Haivision’s low latency Makito decoder for low latency transport or bi-directional communications.
Advanced Features Barracuda streams are secure with the support of AES encryption and resilient through Forward Error Correction (FEC), when coupled with Haivision’s Furnace IP video system. With its industry leading 55 millisecond encoding latency, the Barracuda offers an end-to-end latency of less than 70 milliseconds when coupled with a Makito decoder. Supporting HiLo-Streaming™, each Barracuda can encode the same incoming SD stream using two different encoder settings simultaneously, where one setting might support full resolution full bandwidth for LAN distribution and another setting might provide CIF resolution at a much lower bandwidth for internet streaming. In addition, at least 8 H.264 streams can be emitted by the Barracuda, with each stream assigned an encoder setting, its unique IP encapsulation, and with or without encryption and FEC.
Compatibility The Barracuda accepts Composite, S-Video, and Serial Digital Interface (SDI) inputs and supports both balanced and unbalanced stereo audio and digital audio embedded within the SDI signal. Barracuda can produce H.264 streams at full resolution and full frame rate up to 8Mbps, and yet with built-in downscaling and partial frame rate support, it can emit at least 8 H.264 streams as low as 150 kbps.
Ultra-Compact Encoding For remote installations or headends, the Barracuda offers highly flexible configurations and is easy to deploy. The Barracuda is available as an ultra compact appliance for single channel requirements, or within a 1RU (6 blades) or a 4RU (21 blades) chassis for high-density encoding/decoding challenges.
