The focus of live broadcasters is to deliver the most compelling content at the lowest cost. Remote interviews are employed to take advantage of resources without the cost of or reliance travel and scheduling. Most live remotes are supported by satellite transport that introduces significant transmission delays. To accommodate these delays, various interview techniques (such as advanced audio cues) have been employed to overcome the associated latency. Any interviewees must be trained accordingly.

Serious awkwardness is introduced when the talent is not familiar with the delay. Communication breakdown. To deliver more ad-hoc content, broadcasters are moving to terrestrial networks that are more readily available and supportable, have more bandwidth, do not require advanced scheduling, have much lower latency, and dramatically reduced costs. To drive to the most compelling remote experiences, they must couple this effort with the lowest latency codecs.

Haivision’s Mako technology has been field proven for many years as the lowest latency, bi-directional, multi-stream codec system. It is the heart of many telepresence integrators and OEMs who deliver simple, compelling, always-on communications solutions. It is a technology widely used to bring together remote church campuses requiring highly interactive HD signals that are projected onto very large projections. Media companies and broadcasters alike look to Mako technology to drive their interactive video networks.
