Media companies have extensively used video aggregation and monitoring systems for broadcast control. However, they have huge internal needs to distribute their own channels and other throughout the organization – to producers, content managers, members of the press department, and others. They typically also need to make this live and recorded content available across many facilities. Ease of access, ubiquitous availability, and content security are fundamental requirements.

Haivision’s Furnace and its patented InStream player is the ideal infrastructure for this challenge. Foremost with the Furnace, media streams are always secure, viewable or recordable on by those entitled to do so. Also, as media companies host a variety of platforms, many outside of IT control, the InStream player works equally across all platforms – Windows, MAC, and Linux – without the need to install any drivers or software whatsoever. InStream can also display many feeds simultaneously for multi-channel monitoring. Haivision’s Furnace can also easily span multiple facilities and is designed to overcome the challenge of unicast WAN connections while taking advantage of the efficiency of multicast networks locally.

Haivision also has an open approach to handling pre-encoded content. InStream supports the full H.264 and MPEG-2 toolsets. In order to reach all uses securely, the Furnace supports advanced stream management with VF Encrypt to protect open streams, VF Bridge to link facilities, VF Unicast to serve non-multicast environments, and soon VF Transit, to groom streams for consumption according to the specific capabilities of each and every viewer.
