Today’s military personnel depend on fast
accurate video. Operational efficiency and war fighter safety demand more “eyeballs” in the air and on the ground for ISR (intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance). However, simple video is no longer enough. In order to make sense of the vast amount of video being collected it is imperative that “smart video” systems are deployed.
Smart Video: Merging Video & Data
“Smart video” merges together real-time video with the associated real-time metadata, such as current altitude, GPS coordinates, field of view, and several other data points essential to the ISR mission. This video and data information are used in live displays (with data overlays) and by complex data video analysis systems. Haivision has combined its expertise in low latency video with the insertion of referential metadata to create the PIRANHA™ - the premier platform for video with data transmission.
The PIRANHA supports real-time insertion of KLV (Key-Length-Value) metadata in to video H.264 video streams and real-time Cursor-on-Target (CoT) translation to KLV, a feature unique to Haivision’s PIRANHA. These capabilities vastly improve the ability of both ground forces and analysts to correlate live video feeds to digital maps and targeting systems.
Haivision and the Government
Haivision supports advanced video distribution for government applications. Hundreds of Haivision products are installed in DoD networks around the world. Furnace software has been deployed to over 50,000 seats within the US Federal government. The Furnace IP video distribution system is used across the DoD for research, development, test and evaluation, training, and military exercises. It provides the capability for any installation network user to access live television, scheduled content, or video on demand from their desktops. No separate hardware encoders/decoders or platform-specific players are required. An AES-compliant encryption module is included for sensitive content.
US Army – “Certificate of Networthiness”
Furnace IP video distribution system has received an Army “Certificate of Networthiness” for Department of Defense U.S. Army installations, making it the only Army-certified solution for providing video over IP. The Army CoN video and CoN streaming enables Army commanders to use Furnace's IP video distribution system for training and informational purposes, and it places the Furnace system on the Army Authorized Products List/Army Valid CoN list.
US Air Force – “Authorization to Operate”
Furnace has been awarded the Air Force Authorization to Operate (ATO), enabling the Air Force to deploy Haivision’s video distribution solutions. With bases around the world actively engaged in combat operations, the US Air Force relies upon robust, secure and easily deployed solutions to ensure the quick and accurate execution of missions. With the Furnace, the Air Force could deliver news, intelligence and entertainment to base populations, offering them high-quality live or recorded video over IP.
